Loneliness

As she puts the key in the door

he is there to greet her

The silence is deafening

but its the language they speak

He shares her meals with her

in their comfortable

and uncomfortable

existence

And accompanies her throughout her day

at home

She finds him in the darkest

and deepest

part of the night

His cold embrace is what greets her

at the end of the day

She knows it well

He occupies the opposite side

of the bed

She whispers to him

and he quietly listens

He knows her greatest

fears

desires

and secrets

“He” is loneliness

and she knows him well

Words

Lovely

Damaging

Slicing

words….

They bring great joy

and undeniable pain

Think before you speak

Not everyone does

One comment can send you reeling

or soaring

for hours

days

or weeks on end

Words can make someone question your love for them

or  if you can stand the sight of them

Words can make them question their value in your life

Words…

so beautiful

and so damaging

Woven webs, come in…come in

Let me spin it for you…

Come in, come in

Sit a spell

Have some tea…

I am weaving webs…

Twisted corners

paralyzed eyes

Where have you been my friend

I have waited

baited

you knocked upon my door

I will take away your problems

I will take away your pain

We’ll play a seductive little game

Come in, come in

I will cover you

in transparent

translucent security

silence the demons

that reside within your mind

Come in….

Come in….

In between

One winter day she woke up….

and she let go.

As she exhaled for the last time, she dove into the darkness of the abyss

When she came up for air

she stepped through the door

The grass greener than she could have ever imagined

The fragrance of the flowers like nothing in the space before

The sun felt warm and new…like nothing she had ever felt

The smile that crossed her face felt like the first time she really knew happiness

There were no sounds that compared to what she was hearing here in this space

No words, no one else, no one more

The trees towered higher than anything she could have imagined…

As she laid down in the meadow, she never dreamed that when she closed here eyes

She would wake up here….

again
